Volume-based despatch for small businesses – with free packaging

UK Mail has launched a delivery service called Boxit that could appeal to smaller e-retailers and ad hoc users of parcels services. Not only do users get a free, self-assembly and self-sealing box to package their goods in; the company says they also get a service that is up to 25 per cent cheaper than they might expect.

Two sizes of box will be available, suited to consignments of up to 10kg and 15kg respectively. A simplified, volumetric charging structure will by applied, relieving users from some of the hassle of using weight-dependent delivery services.

The system will apply to a range of UK Mail's established service options, including next-day delivery by noon, 10.30am and 9.30am, plus Saturday delivery.
