Silent roller conveyors from SSI Shaefer
![]() If you have problems with the noise made by your current roller conveyors, or have been put off adopting conveyors at all because of potential noise, a development by SSI Shaefer could be of real interest. The company has launched what it is calling a silent conveying system. You don't have to adopt every noise-reducing element, but the more you include, presumably the better it gets. The noise-optimised components include an electric option on the conveyor belt diverter and stopper instead of pneumatic stroke; vibration-reduced SMR mounting; and totes with noise-absorbing bases. The company says the 'silent conveying' system can be configured to allow noise levels to be reduced either throughout the conveyer path or at given points only – for example, in areas close to attended workstations. The new components are said to have been analysed thoroughly to ensure the optimum noise reduction. The company says the system is barely audible in many working environments – improving on its existing conveyor systems, which are already said to be among the quietest on the market. SSI Schaefer has also introduced a new dynamic flow control system to reduce the incidence of stop-start cycling at merge points. This in itself is said to help reduce noise, while providing a throughput enhancement potential of 15 to 25 per cent.
