Docdata switches to single-carrier system

Docdata Fulfilment, the relaunched multi-channel business built on the basis of the former Braywood operation, is switching to a single-carrier system in a bid to streamline its home delivery performance. The work will go to UPS.

UK chairman Andy Reedman told F&e the company liked UPS's high-quality service and IT capabilities, which include goods tracking and customer-initiated returns.

'Naturally we will respect our clients' wishes if they particularly want us to use another carrier, but we're channelling most of the work through the new system.'

Reedman points out that a carrier selection capability is already built into docdata's in-house management software, and this will still be able to divert consignments to other carriers where circumstances indicate a more suitable option.

Whilst active in home deliveries in America, UPS is not so well known for working in this market sector in Britain. Although it acquired Lynx, which had a flourishing home delivery operation, back in 2005, UPS has since told F&E that the main appeal was Lynx's UK presence and infrastructure, rather than its home delivery business as such.
