City Link renews fleet

Seen here are just a few of a batch of 140 trailers that are being added to the fleet of carrier City Link, one of the key players in the home delivery market. They are for hub-to-depot trunking movements.

The company is describing the £23 million order as one of the largest ever placed in the UK. The trailers are being built by Gray & Adams and supplied through Fraikin and Ryder under contract hire agreements.

City Link also ordered 45 new Renault and DAF trucks through Fraikin, and says it will repeat the order in 2008.

The extent of these orders goes some way to offsetting the rather negative press reports that were circulating earlier this year when parent Rentokil Initial said its 2008 profits would be lower than last year. In December the company said weak consumer spending was having a detrimental effect on earnings, and it has also reported issues in integrating recently acquired businesses, which presumably include Target, the major business-to-business carrier.
