Debit card payment with Actinic

E-tailers who cannot or do not wish to accept credit card payments are being targeted by Web storefront and e-commerce developer Actinic. The company has introduced the NOCHEX payment system to its product range, and is offering it in all main versions from 6.1.4 onwards, including Catalog, Business and Developer.

The NOCHEX payment system enables online traders to accept payments from anyone with a UK debit card (there are said to be 60 million of these in circulation). You can identify the cards by symbols such as Delta, Maestro and Switch, although in other respects they often look like credit cards.

The Independent Leeds-based NOCHEX company charges a flat rate of 1 per cent on all transactions, but there are no sign-up fees or charge-backs on challenged transactions. Actinic sees the facility as appealing particularly to small online vendors who do not have merchant status.

According to Actinic chief executive Chris Barling: "We recognise that merchants and their customers want to be offered a range of online payment options, and the reassurance that their information is secure."

*Actinic says over 50 per cent of small and medium-sized business using packaged software to run their online stores now use its software. It also has many larger clients such as Lloyds of London and Robert Dyas.
