Home Shopping Europe using TDG for fulfilment

Home Shopping Europe, the latest TV home shopping channel to start broadcasting in the UK, has appointed logistics contractor TDG to handle its e-fulfilment services.

The fulfilment operation is based in a shared-user TDG facility at Wrexham in North Wales, where 5,000 sq m of space has been allocated out of a total of 45,000 sq m. A secure area has been created for storing high-value goods, and the site security has been generally upgraded.

TDG is handling a range of services including picking, inspecting, packaging and despatch, and is also responsible for cleaning all the jewellery when it arrives and leaves the premises.

This the first major e-fulfilment contract to be announced by TDG, although the group stated nearly two years ago it that planned to expand into this business segment. It says the rest of the Wrexham site has been earmarked for other e-fulfilment business, and has seen investment of £200,000. TDG "is using its experience in a number of sectors to capitalise in this expanding niche logistics market," says Phil Byron, its director of non-food retail.

HSE is broadcasting 24 hours a day, seven days a week from a base at St Albans, offering what are termed multi-portal TV channel services. Its service is available on Sky Digital channel 649, and it also sells through its own Web site, www.hse24.co.uk. Its range includes beauty products, jewellery, personal fitness electronics, homeware, DIY equipment, collectibles and gifts.

The company is controlled by Home Order Television Networks AG, a European holding company in which the Florida-based Home Shopping Network is the biggest shareholder (with a 44.6 per cent stake).
