One of the first new products to emerge from UK company Satamatics since its takeover by Atlanta-based EMS Technologies, announced towards the turn of the year, is an enhanced satellite terminal, the SAT-202.

The new unit, described as the company's next-generation satellite terminal, incorporates several features said to have been requested by users, including three inputs for sensor monitoring and a low-voltage digital output suitable for driving relays and indicators. It also features a new u-blox 50-channel 3D GPS receiver.

The unit is designed for global asset tracking and monitoring using the Inmarsat IsatM2M satellite, and follows on from a predecessor that is said to have sold 80,000 units.

EMS, the parent company of mobile computer manufacturer LXE, says EMS Satamatics (its new name) provides a good fit with its existing Iridium- and Inmarsat-based tracking solutions. Its Tewkesbury base is being retained.
