Sybase iAnywhere says it is the first mobile device management vendor to include both antivirus and firewall capabilities in a comprehensive mobility suite. The Afaria management and security solution incorporated in the Sybase Information Anywhere suite gains these new capabilities alongside its mobile device authentication and encryption technology. The antivirus component is also said to be the first in its market to use heuristic, or behaviour-based technology.

It is available for the three leading smart phone operating systems, Windows Mobile, Symbian and Blackberry.

Sybase iAnywhere cites comments by Sean Ryan, research analyst for mobile enterprise at IDC, who says that the growing adoption of converged mobile devices or smart phones “will inevitably bring with it a rise in the number of attacks and in the sophistication of viruses and other malware specifically targeting these devices.”
