'Social networking' in the supply chain
![]() Business-based 'social networking' has been introduced in the latest version of CarrierNetOnline, the hosted transport management system from Deltion. The term is used by chief executive Piyush Shah for the facility offered by the software to give users visibility of transactions across the extended supply chain. He says this enables them to collaborate online and manage events jointly as they occur. 'The concept is similar to those of Facebook and MySpace,' he claims. 'This is a dramatic leap in customer service – and at low cost.' A related development is the ability to set up customer-defined key performance indicators (KPIs) – not just for in-house operations but also for all subcontractors. The company says this means that users can establish a best-practice benchmark across all of their operations and use them to drive down costs and improve service. CarrierNetOnline is provided on a pay-as-you-go software as a service basis, offering business benefits without capital outlay.
