There's strong emphasis on tracking and security issues a web-based proof of delivery system launched by Channel and Mobile Solutions. Its DeliveryPOD 2009 is aimed not just at parcels delivery, but also at mail and document despatch.

The system uses standard GPRS-enabled handheld devices, and is said to be suitable for any kind of organisation from a small mailroom to a large multi-site enterprise.

It can accommodate any number of tracking points, and email alerts can be sent to users at chosen points in the delivery process. Signature capture is included as standard.

The application goes beyond the areas that might conventionally be called POD management. It can for instance include 2D label printing, delivery manifest production, delivery route management and even GPS-based vehicle tracking.

 

The system is available either for a one-off licence fee or in return for monthly payments that include software, hardware and support.
