Business as usual as DX grabs ParcelXchange operator
It's business as usual for the main divisions of Business Direct, the company says, following the acquisition of large parts of the organisation by DX. It adds that plans for expansion of its box-bank network into the business-to-consumer market will go ahead. Business Direct specialises in in-night parts deliveries, and has its own network of 4,000 ParcelXchange intelligent boxes, where goods can be left securely for collection later. In recent times it has been building up this resource, and has set up a separate division to license the technology to postal operators and carriers overseas – already to good effect, with takers coming forward in Ireland and Scandinavia. Now the in-night and box-system divisions have been secured by DX, a specialist in the independent mail sector. DX was born out of the break-up of Hays at the start of the decade. Not included in the deal were some non-core operations such as two-man deliveries. Under Hays the DX company had its own parts delivery system, including a large network of 'dumb' drop-boxes, but this was sold to ByBox, helping to fuel that company's rapid growth in parts delivery. Now the two businesses are rivals again.
