Amtrak – hopes of revival fade

Underlining the demise of parcels carrier Amtrak in August, its web site has now been taken down and replaced with an austere advisory page, referring visitors to joint administrators I Best and T Lukic. Ernst and Young were appointed joint administrators in August.

Initially the site bore a notice advising consignors with parcels still in the system to refer enquiries to Business Post. We understand that the initial backlog was largely cleared.

Amtrak was involved heavily in home deliveries – a market sector known to have been surviving the economic downturn better than some. However, it is thought that the company suffered from highly competitive pricing in this sector, and had in fact been hoping to reduce its dependence on the consumer market.
