Carrier selection in online parcels service
P4D, an online parcels shipping company, claims to have achieved new levels of automation and convenience for home shopping retailers with an online system called Parcel Shipping Manager. It is geared particularly to eBay 'power sellers', but other shippers can benefit too. P4D already receives parcels despatch orders via its web site and feeds them automatically to user-selected parcels carriers, gaining the benefits of bulk delivery rates negotiated by the company with given carriers. The new service, which P4D has set up in association with software developer Polyspaston, adds further automation, and includes carrier selection based on lowest cost. Details such as collection and delivery addresses, the parcel contents, dimensions and weight can be captured automatically from users' data. They simply sign up for the service, and then their orders are uploaded to the PSM web site and processed automatically.
Shipping Manager is said to be compatible with several e-commerce platforms including eBay, osCommerce, Zen Cart and ShopDirector. Further platforms are due to be added over the coming months. P4D was founded three years ago Stephen Abel, who is a co-director of the new operation.
