Amtrak beefs up top team

Amtrak, one of the leading players in business-to-consumer express home delivery, has strengthened its main board 14 months after its restructuring at the start of last year, taking on two new directors. Michael Hawkins joins as commercial director and Tony Hammond as sales director. They were both latterly with DHL, where Hammond was director of mail services. Both have a long track record in the parcels industry.

They will take over the functions currently handled by Gerry Ruffell, who was part of the takeover team but is now moving on.

A third newcomer is IT director Phil Whitlock, who has also worked for DHL, and also for Securicor. He is supported by Joe Dudley, who has rejoined as deputy IT director after a spell of working for NetDespatch.

Alan Jones, who led the rescue team last year, remains in place as managing director.
