This 330,000 sq ft warehouse at Wellingborough in Northamptonshire ,formerly a Somerfield distribution centre, has been taken over by NYK Logistics - largely for a single customer that was formerly based at NYK's headquarters in Grange Park, Northampton.

NYK works for a number of high-tech customers, but we haven't been told officially who this one is. What the move indicates is the growing resource base of this Japanese-owned group, which includes e-fulfilment and home delivery among its activities.

It says the initial customer is using 70 per cent of the newly-acquired site, and adds that 85,000 sq ft of speculative warehousing is currently being added there.

NYK says it now has 5,500 staff and 1.6 million sq ft of warehousing in the UK.
