Spring 2007
Latest duty management cuts customs liability
By adopting the latest version of the DLx DutyManagement system from RedPrairie, companies that assemble and manufacture from imported components are said to be able to take advantage of regulations that can reduce or eliminate customs duty payments - delivering permanently higher profit margins and improved cash flow. The software developer reckons most companies engaged in importing or exporting could reduce their customs and excise payments, but the majority fail to do so because of the complexity of HMRC regulations. As the year progresses, further enhancements will add features such as support for SAD Harmonisation, Authorised Economic Operators (AEO), Single Access Point and the Modernised Customs Code. The company is also adding provision for users to repack products under bond, allowing duty to be paid even later. RFID support will improve shipment efficiency and security, it says, while expanded browser-based capabilities will give users and their customers greater visibility of information.
