Macmillan brings order-picking to book with Swisslog
Book distributor Macmillan Distribution has replaced an ERP-based warehouse management system with a dedicated radio frequency-based solution from Swisslog, and plans to add voice-directed picking later. The existing ERP-based system had been progressively customised to meet Macmillan's requirements, but it needed something that could reflect advanced technologies such as voice picking and RFID. Another feature that appealed to the company was Swisslog's 'task interleaving' capability. The system has been implemented at the largest of Macmillan's three warehouse sites - a 300,000 sq ft facility at Pontardulais, Swansea.
