UK for Highjump
One of the United States' better-known warehouse management packages, Highjump, is being given a major promotional push in Britain, where it is sold through a partnership with Alpha Landsteinar. Although the company behind the system already offered it in Britain, it has now mounted a global associate programme to accelerate take-up. Highjump is a fully-featured package, and was one of the first in its field to migrate to a Web-based architecture (this back in 1997). The company says its use of RAD (rapid application development) tools allows users to make changes to its functionality themselves without high-level programming skills, using a fourth-generation language on top of underlying C and C++ code. It claims this gives it the lowest total cost of ownership of any competing product. Highjump is said to have 120 live implementations, including one by Sony Music, which has made extensive use of its user-programmable features. It has users in North and South America, Australasia, the Far East and Asia. A recent addition to the functionality of the suite is a transport management module.
