FWL expands in US, adds Sun platform
Supply-chain execution specialist FWL Technologies has formally announced its acquisition of New Jersey-based i-Scope, an established US contender in the global supply-chain software market (as previewed in e.logistics Magazine, last issue). Following the acquisition it has established a new American subsidiary company, FWL Technologies LLC. i-Scope has developed special expertise in Web-native supply-chain applications, and FWL says it is already using technology from both companies to deploy integrated systems that incorporate real-time track and trace facilities and alerts - mainly for major shipping lines and global freight companies. Meanwhile, the FulfillmentSCE family of supply chain systems from FWL is now available on the Solaris hardware platform from Sun Microsystems. FWL chief executive officer David Renshaw says he sees the arrangement as "a strategic partnership in which two companies with a true global presence can work together." FulfillmentSCE is already Unix-based, and has been implemented on various hardware platforms such as IBM's RS 6000, but FWL describes the Solaris as "the most reliable, scalable and secure infrastructure platform available".
