Mailboxes Etc in UPS drop-off trial
Parcels carrier UPS is running drop-off trials with Texaco and Mailboxes Etc, the franchised chain of high-street mail handling and office supplies shops which it acquired in March last year. It is also exploring opportunities for receiving returned goods at the shops. Mailboxes Etc was founded in the US 22 year ago. Its UK network already handles outgoing consignments for UPS and other carriers such as Parcelforce Worldwide and FedEx. In the US MBE was a co-founder of Return.com, a business set up two years ago to provide a returns route for Internet and catalogue shoppers. It has over 4,500 outlets worldwide, including several dozen in the UK. Worldwide, UPS also operates over 11,000 despatch offices under its own brand, either directly or through franchises, but the concept is less well established in the UK, where Consignia remains the postal service of choice for a higher proportion of businesses.
