Birzerba (UK) says claims to have developed the first-ever complete shipping management system to handle carrier selection, weighing and printing on a consolidated basis. The modular system includes both hardware and software. The Parcel Shipping Service identifies the most suitable carrier for the job, weighs parcels, draws up postal documents (including barcodes) and calculates shipping charges. Scanning is also provided. The company itself plays the role of intermediary, passing booking details between the user and the selected carrier via an ISDN line. Bizerba says tracking and delivery checking can also be built in.
