Fifty-seven varieties in RHA member search
A "find a haulier" search capability has been introduced on the Road Haulage Association's Web site - exploiting the organisation's database of over 14,000 members. It is available to non-members. The facility is just one click away from the home page, and allows users to search on the basis of postcode or by dragging a "crosshair" symbol to the required location on a small map. It is possible to request a listing of the nearest five, ten or fifteen matches. Users have to specify the type of operations required, selecting from a list of 57 categories (the default is general haulage). The list covers almost every transport sector, although not at present home delivery. The results include the name, address and telephone number of each relevant haulier.
The RHA Web site was launched three years ago, and revamped last autumn. Most of the site is open to the public, but there is also a range of password-protected member services (currently accessible to around 30 per cent of the membership). The site is hosted and maintained by Road Tech Computer Systems, which is also a partner to the organisation in RHA Computer Services.
