Microlise repositions itself, tackles tagging
Global visibility, consignment tracking and vehicle tracking and location are being added to the range of products from Microlise, the UK company known best for its Opus warehouse management systems and radio-frequency networking and hardware products. As we closed for press, the company also announced that it had merged its software and engineering divisions into a single entity, and adopted Opus World branding for the unified range. Key features of its new systems include Java programming to ensure open, platform-independent deployment; and the use of in-house products such as an on-board "black box", which underline the company's commitment to the new range.
Meanwhile, Microlise is involved in various initiatives to promote radio-frequency tagging, including the Home Office's "clipping of goods" programme, on which more information is expected later in the year. It has also been working with specialists WhereNet and Savi on systems said to reduce unit costs of RFID systems to a claimed tenth of previous levels.
