IBM and IBS in supply-chain link
IBM and Swedish-based software supplier IBS have formed a global strategic alliance to supply e-business and supply-chain solutions. Under the deal, IBS's existing Virtual Enterprise Supply Chain Collaboration package will be linked with a range of products from IBM, including middleware, servers and the IBM Global Services Supply Chain Management range. Underlying the development is a move to combine the capabilities of conventional ERP (enterprise resource planning) software with cross-company integration and collaboration. IBS's Virtual Enterprise system already goes part of the way towards this, and the new relationship is seen as taking it a stage further. IBS already works closely with IBM, and its Virtual Enterprise software uses IBM's WebSphere development platform. The system combines supply-chain and multi-company integration with advanced business logic.
The two companies will jointly market and install their integrated solutions worldwide.
