Centralised PODs on the Web
A managed system called docStore for holding proof-of-delivery documents centrally and accessing them via the Internet has been developed by POD specialist Image Integrators. All that is required at the document source end is a PC and a scanner. Images are sent over the Internet to a central repository or "server farm" run by Image Integrators, where they are validated, indexed and stored. They can then be accessed via the Web from any approved location. Image Integrators provides firewall protection and mirrored storage for the documents. The company sees various attractions in the system. It has a very low setup cost, it keeps PODs safely off site, it provides low-cost consolidation of documents from dispersed sites, and allows access to the full database from any of those sites. It is also infinitely scaleable. Image Integrators already supplies its own modular imaging system, Empower, to larger users such as carriers ANC, Schneider, Target Express and United Carriers, and works with imaging vendors such as Kofax, Bell & Howell, Kodak, IMR and Filenet.
