International Fulfilment
Deal could smooth cross-border fulfilment A deal struck in the United States between UK software house Kewill Systems and New York-based counterpart Syntra aims to help Internet (and other) retailers to supply goods that need to be moved across borders. The deal links Kewill's carrier selection system with Syntra's expertise in international trade compliance. Kewill supplies systems for helping shippers make the best choice of carrier, while Syntra is described as offering online services and real-time content for managing the financial, logistics and regulatory constraints associated with global procurement. Features of the Syntra system include the ability to calculate tariffs, duties and other charges. It will be combined with the Kewill.Ship and Kewill.Trade product sets. In its rationale for the deal, Kewill cites a survey by Forrester Research, Mastering Commerce Logistics, showing that 85 per cent of companies interviewed with an online presence could not fill orders internationally because of the complexity of shipping across borders.
