Object dimensioning from Datalogic

"Object dimensioning" is said to be as easy as barcode scanning with a new volume measurement system from Datalogic.

Its new VS8000, which is based on the same mechanical and optical measuring architecture as the company's DS8100 laser scanner, operates at speeds of up to 2,000 scans per second, and covers a standard measurement area of 800mm. It is considered ideal for producing reliable volume estimates of objects moving past on a conveyor. It can cope with belt speeds of 5 metres per second, and with a gap between objects of only 50mm.

Datalogic says that as consignments become lighter and bulkier, parcels carriers and similar operators are increasingly finding that dimensioning systems are more useful that scales for calculating vehicle loading capacities.
